You're correct.
If the writer writes something irrelevant and never mentions why it's there even after the story ends, it's called redundancy, and it's regarded as a BIG MISTAKE on the writer's part.
So, yes, they're relevant ~

Well, the evidence is in the title of the chapter itself: "Chain Link", which is basically the English translation of "Len'en".
And you know, a chain links everything together ~
Remember part 4? When everything started to go wrong? What made Garaiya unable to see the culprit? The answer is already given ~
