To be honest, that's the most idiotic reason I've ever heard of.
Sure, they want something new and fresh, but kicking an old member out doesn't change anything. On the contrary, it would work against your team, since that equals losing a worker.
Anyhow, just pay no mind to those people. They will soon realise their mistake... or not. Either way, just find something new. Or work alone.
